Quality First Teaching and SEN Support Toolkit - parent/carer impact survey
Dear Parents/Carers, The Quality First Teaching and SEN Support Toolkit has now been launched. The Local Authority will be monitoring it’s impact on SENCO’s, teaching staff and the children receiving support. We think it has the potential to make a huge positive difference to parents/carers too. In order to measure any difference access to the Toolkit may have, we need to establish a baseline to measure against. We hope you will be happy to help us do this by completing the on-line form at the bottom of this page. |
If you have a child who is receiving additional support where they are educated (but do not have an EHC Plan) it would be very helpful if you could answer the following 3 questions by completing the on-line form below. (If you have already seen the Toolkit content, please cast your mind back).
Please use the scale 1 to 10 to reply – the descriptors are examples only-
Question 1 - How confident do you feel, discussing your child’s needs and support available to them with the school?
Scale 1 = I don’t, they talk - I listen. They use terms I don’t really understand, I am worried they will say there is nothing they can do to help my child.
Scale 10 = Very, I know the questions to ask and challenge decision making and progress where appropriate.
Question 2 - Do you understand/use the terminology used by the SENCO/teaching staff to describe areas of need and interventions available to your child?
Scale 1 = No idea, it is like a foreign language – that changes each year.
Scale 10 = I do, I am comfortable using terms like graduated response, Assess, plan, do, review. I know when I should be involved in discussions and when external agencies should be involved.
Question 3 - How familiar are you with the approaches/processes used to assess your child’s needs and deliver early support to your child?
Scale 1 = I have no idea and no one seems to want to explain to me.
Scale 10 = I have read and am familiar with the Code of Practice and pulled out the parts that relate to early intervention and SEN Support.
