School Visit Programme
Bexley Voice have offered a successful school visit programme for parents and carers since 2012. We are now able to offer face to face, virtual visits or attend an existing school event such as an open day. Our visits are informal, we meet with the parents and carers of children and young people (0-25 years) with special needs and/or disabilities at a particular school and let them know what Bexley Voice can offer them. School visits provide an opportunity for Bexley Voice to introduce ourselves whilst providing information on support available locally and nationally. Following our visits, some schools have continued to offer regular meetings for parents, enabling them to continue to support each other. |
Who is it for?
The session is suitable for:
Tell me more...
Both our face-to-face school visits and virtual school visits can be arranged any term time morning, Monday to Friday. They usually last up to 2 hours, starting at around 9.30am. This allows us time to share information and respond to individual questions from parents.
We can also offer a shorter visit if you would like us to join an existing coffee morning or parents evening.
For the face to face sessions, the school will need to make an appropriate space available to accommodate the likely number of participants.
The Virtual School Visit is provided via Teams. Parents will need to be able to access this platform.
It may be possible for groups of schools to share a virtual visit, let us know if there is a natural cluster of schools who may benefit from this.
We can be flexible, so get in touch and we can arrange a convenient date and time to come along.
Our visits include:

Bexley Voice Visit to Mayplace Primary School in February 2023
Stacey and Janine from Bexley Voice came to one of our parent coffee mornings. They gave a clear and detailed presentation of how Bexley Voice can support all parents and answered parents' questions. They were both open and honest about sharing their own experiences and many parents commented to us that they felt reassured and found the session incredibly useful. It really helped parents to realise that they are not alone and that there is support available for them. Stacey and Janine created an atmosphere where parents felt safe and comfortable asking questions and sharing their experiences.
I would definitely recommend inviting Bexley Voice to support school events and to share information with parents.

Bexley Voice visited Gravel Hill Primary School in Bexley in Nov 2022. This was the feedback:
"Bexley Voice held a really informative parent workshop in our school. It was great to hear about the work Bexley Voice do, although I was aware of the brilliant support they offer for parents and carers in Bexley, I wasn't aware of many of the services they offered, and it was very useful for our parents to hear. Their passion and expertise really shines through when they talk about the work they do and I wish more parents were aware of what they offer. I will continue to signpost them in my daily work but also share what they can offer with colleagues to get the word out there more."

Bexley Voice visited Parkway Primary School in Bexley in April 2022. This was the feedback:
The meeting was very informative and was presented in a relaxed, welcoming, parent-friendly manner. It was great that parents were given an overview of the work of Bexley Voice and the support than can be offered to parents through workshops, e-bulletins, my guides, engagement groups, tea and talk sessions and Facebook to name but a few.
Parents were given the opportunity to talk about their own experiences and share concerns and strategies that work for them. Parental feedback was very positive. One parent commented: “I don’t feel so alone now. The whole SEND system can be really daunting and it’s so nice to know that other parents are going through the same things as me. I now know where I can get extra help and support. Thank you."
Bexley Voice visited Longlands Primary School in Bexley in January 2022. This was the feedback:
"As a SENCo, I have known about Bexley Voice for a few years and signpost parents to the service regularly. However, I have never delved into what is on offer in lots of detail. After hearing Bexley Voice share what they do at a SENCo forum meeting and how they offer coffee mornings for parents in school, I was very interested and so signed up for them to visit my primary school. Stacey and Janine were very efficient, arranging a date for the meeting and informing me of what the coffee morning entailed.
The morning went really well and the presentation lead by Stacey and Janine was fantastic. Their knowledge about SEN was apparent and their friendly approachable manner really helped parents relax and remain engaged. The morning consisted of looking at what Bexley Voice is and what they can support with and then there was plenty of opportunity for the parents to share their experiences and concerns and to chat to one another and to Stacey and Janine. I was very impressed with the whole session and would recommend other schools, both primary and secondary, to invite Bexley Voice in. The parents left happy and said they were going to sign up to be involved in the community. We all found the morning really informative and helpful."
